What to do before you do anything else
-
Stop talking about the case.
Not to police, not to a cellmate, not on a recorded jail line, not on social media. The right to remain silent only works if you use it.
-
Write down what you remember.
Names, times, what was said, who was present. Detail fades quickly, and what you recall in week one is worth more than what you recall in month three.
-
Do not miss a court date.
A missed appearance turns a manageable case into a bench warrant and a new charge. If you do not know your next date, call and the firm will find it.
